Death
Lemuel Rufus Furr, Sr., 62, of 2416 Newberry Road, died Saturday evening in a local hospital. A prominent realtor he was owner of Furr Realty Co. He was born July 5, 1900 in Cabarrus County, N. C., his parents the late Henry R. and Rose Perry Furr. Mr. Furr was a member of Steele Creek Presbyterian Church. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Isabelle Johnson Furr; five daughters, Mrs. Thomas M. Smith, Mrs. D. A. Darby, Mrs. Alvin Smith and Mrs. Joseph Shumaker, all of Charlotte, Mrs. C. E. Vallandingham, White Sulphur Springs, W. Va.; four sons, Herman L. Furr, Lemuel R. Furr, Jr., Bobby V. Furr and Jimmy J. Furr, all of Charlotte; and 28 grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 3 p. m. Monday from the McEwen West Chapel with the Rev. Harold Adcock, minister of First Wesleyan Methodist Church officiating. Interment in Oaklawn Cemetery. The following nephews will serve as active pallbearers: James Thompson, Henry Massey, Ronald Furr, Timothy Furr, L. A. Furr, Jr. and Arthur Furr, Honorary pallbearers are Dr. Fred Austin, Dr. Allyn B. Choate, Jack H. Correll, Louis Carter, Walter Benson, Clarence Deese, C. D. Thomas, Sr., C. D. Thomas, Jr., Martin Waters, Harry G. Brown and E. L. Copley. The family will be at the home of Mrs. Furr, 2616 Commonwealth Ave.The Charlotte Observer, Charlotte, North Carolina, October 29, 1962
