Death
Melvin Haywood Furr, 35, of 110 Palestine Road, died suddenly Wednesday morning following an attack at his home. He was pronounced dead on arrival at the Stanly County Hospital at 3:45 a.m. Funeral services will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at Oak Grove Baptist Church with interment in Fairview Cemetery. Officiating will be Rev. Albert Hinson, pastor, assisted by Rev. Arlie Starnes and Rev. Clarence Whitley. The body was taken from Stanly Funeral Home to the Furr home Thursday morning to remain until taken to the church at 1 p.m. to lie in state until the rites. Employed at the Northside Curb Market, Mr. Furr was son of Mrs. Ida Smith Furr of Albemarle and the late James A. Furr of Stanly County. Surviving in addition to his mother are one sister, Mrs. Postle Sides of Albemarle; and six brothers, Theodore Furr, Jake Furr, Hubert Furr, Jesse Furr, Barney Furr and Guilford Furr, all of Albemarle.Stanly News and Press, Albemarle, North Carolina, December 1, 1967
