Notes
Death
Albemarle, Dec. 11. — Funeral services for Rufus N. Furr, 32-year-old farmer of the Stanfield community, fatally burned Sunday morning in the explosion of a can of gasoline, were held at Locust Baptist church Monday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock. Mr. Furr was attempting to light a fire in the kitchen range Sunday morning about 6 o'clock, supposedly using kerosene to aid in getting the fire started. The can, however, was filled with gasoline the day previously by one of the Furr children, who mixed the containers. The explosion threw the blazing gasoline over Mr. Furr's body, converting it into a human torch, and his entire body was badly charred. Despite his injuries he survived until 1 o'clock in the afternoon. Mr. Furr, one of the most prominent farmers of the county, is survived by his mother, Mrs. Nelson M. Furr, his wife and three small children, four brothers, Charles, Bunyan, William and Ralph, and five sisters, Mrs. Fulton Hathcock of Concord, Mrs. Dwight Ausband, Mrs. Paul Tally, Mrs. Pierce Rinehardt, and Miss Zora Furr. The Charlotte News, Charlotte, North Carolina, December 11, 1934
