Manchester Democrat, Manchester, Iowa, August 14, 1901, Page 5, Col. 2: Samuel A. Hosier, son of J. C. Hosier of Colesburg, passed away at Mercy hospital in Dubuque last week, after a short illness of typhoid fever. Deceased was born in Manchester in the year 1866. He was married July 5, 1889, to Miss Anna Ingles. He is survived by his wife, three children and his aged father. The funeral was held in Dubuque. Dyersville New Letter.
Research of Richard Dale Hosier has this statement, "According to his son, John Hosier, Samuel died of "Black Leg" which could have been phlebitis. John said his father died three months after his birth [2 September 1900].
Ansel Samuel Hosier supposedly died at Thorpe, Delaware County, Iowa in 1900. A search of Iowa vital records from 1896 to 1900 did not locate a death certificate.
