On the 1920 U. S. Census Index of Delaware Co., Iowa, Sydney W. Hosier, age 68, born in Michigan and wife Emaline, age 63, born in Iowa. ED 100, Sheet 4, Line 84. Their address was 801 South, Manchester, Iowa.
Obituary from The Manchester Press, Thursday, March 28, 1929, Page 1: S. W. Hosier, for more than forty years a resident of this county, died at his home in this city on March 16, 1929, after a long illness. Funeral services were held on the 18th instant at his home and the body was placed in the receiving vault at Oakland cemetery, awaiting burial later. Mr. Hosier was a native of the state of Michigan and was born on Feb. 8, 1851. He was therefore 78 years of age. In an early day he came to this county and engaged in farming near Edgewood. He was twice married, his first wife being Ida Barker. In 1910 he was married to Emeline Stevens, who passed away seven years ago. About twenty years ago Mr. Hosier took up his residence in Manchester and became a familiar figure on our streets. He is survived by a step-daughter, Mrs. Harley Silker, of Marion and by one brother and one sister---John W. of Waterloo and Mrs. I. E. Smith of this city. Mr. Hosier was known to his friends as a man of quiet and retiring nature, thoroughly honest and dependable and a trustworthy citizen. His life was one of industry and thrift and his influence was invariably on the side of right. He will long be remembered by the friends who had known him so well, and they extend sympathy to the surviving members of his family.
