1860 U. S. Census of Manchester, Delaware Co., Iowa, John appears with his wife Olive and children Isaac, Francis, William, Emma, Martha, Charles and a 3 month old male whose name is undecipherable. John is a carpenter.
1870 U. S. Census of Dubuque, Dubuque Co., Iowa, John appears with his wife Olive and children Isaac, Francis, William, Emma, Martha, Charles, John, Alice, Samuel and Minnie. John is a carpenter of houses.
1880 United States Census shows the family living at Township 11, Waco Village, Stricklin Street, York Co., Nebraska; John C., Olive, Charles, Martha, Samuel and Minnie. John's occupation is carpenter.
1900 Census shows John with wife Ellen at Delaware Co., Iowa, Colony Township, Colesburg town. His occupation is preacher. He stated his father was born in Germany and his mother's birth place as unknown. It states he and Ellen have been married 18 years but other sources shows it would be only 8 years.
From The Manchester Press, 3 February 1910, page 6: J. W. [C.] Hosier, formerly a resident of Colesburg, died at his home in Edgewood Monday afternoon. Mr. Hosier was well along in years and had not been in the best of health for some months. He was an old soldier of the Civil War. The funeral was held Thursday at the Congregational church in Edgewood and the services were conducted by Rev. Bert Wildermuth.
