Individual Details
Ellef Jakobsen Løvrød
(10 Feb 1866 - 17 May 1937)
Medical: Went blind as a younger man.
Ellef's name was spelled: "Ellev Løvrø" or "Ellve Løvrø" in Norway.
Came to america in 1897, with wife Sofie and two children, Jacob (4 years) Even (2 years). Came by boat to Canada shore, then train across Canada to Hendricks, Mn. Took over farm which I understand was farmed by Jacob Jacobson, who had wrote to Ellve in Norway to have him come and take over the farm. Jacobson had almost lost the farm, but a man by the name of Hansen had helped keep the farm for Ellve.
per JoAnn Lovro, daughter of Gilbert Lovro - BJS
Ellef went to look for work in Røros during the Norwegian Depression -- This is where he met Sophie.

Gerald Lovro - Even's son - says Ellef landed in New York. Eldon says Even came through New York with his parents - Eldon was told that by Eve

The story about an uncle (Jacobson) asking Ellef Lovro to come to America isn't right. It is the grandfather (Ellef Jacobsen) who asked his grandson, Ellef Lovro, to come from Norway. E. Jacobsen would have been 77 years old when Bersvend died and there was no way he could manage the land. Earl, Eldon & Gerald Lovro say that they were told by their father (Even) that E. Jacobsen thought he was going to loose the land so he and a man named Hansen planted trees (a tree claim) to hold the land for Ellef Lovro to get there. In the 1898 Platte Book of Lincoln County, MN - Hansonville Twnsp - Sec 30, E. Lovro is shown on the quarter directly north of the B. Ellefson estate, so E. Lovro came to the exact same area.
