Individual Details
Charles Waddill
(9 Jan 1775 - 13 Jul 1834)
I believe the manuscript about the Waddills is possibly wrong concerning the birthyear for Charles.
The online database had estimated Charles as born circa 1760. The manuscript of Mrs. Stacy gives a date for the birth of Charles Waddill as 9 Jan 1775, the same year of birth as his wife, and relates that Charles & his wife were very young when married and lived within walking distance of his parents. The censuses confirm they were next door.
There is a deed of land to Charles Waddell in Pittsylvania Co in 1792 which indicates he was at least age 21 by that year, or born before 1771. The 1830 Census also indicates he was then age 60-70, or born between 1760 and 1770.
Perhaps, the wife was very young, Charles was some older, and Mrs. Mary Waddill, at age 88, made a mistake in transcribing his birth.
This is the earliest record I've found of Charles in Pittsylvania County:

Charles would have been about age 15 in 1790 IF he was born in 1775, but a 14-year-old could witness by law.

17 Dec 1792 Ack.
[Now this deed presents a problem. If Charles was born 1775, by law he could not hold title to land until age 21, or 1796. He would have been born by 1771. However, there is an exception - married men under age 21 could hold title and Charles is said to have married earlier in this month of Dec 1792.]
Charles Waddill started paying tax on this property in 1793 and continued to do so through1799. In 1797, Noel Senr sold 800 acres to Charles - the next day Charles sold have to his brother Allen. Apparently the father was turning over the majority of his land to his sons. In 1795, Noel had sold the 400 acres to Allen who sold it back to his father the next year. I'm not sure what this exchange of deeds was attempting to accomplish.

[This Will is most peculiar in that there seem to be no other records of a John Waddill. Was he another brother of Charles? Was he a cousin? John obviously has a relationship to the Marshall family and Charles married Ann Marshal. John's children seem to be young in 1811, but not young enough that John could have been a son of Charles'. This daughter Nancy may have been the wife of Robert Walters who died in Warren Co KY. Robert was a son of Jackson Walters.]

15 Feb 1808, ack by said Samuel Carter to be his act and deed [obvious error - should have been acknowledged by Vaughan]
It is not certain which Noel Waddill witnessed the above deed. The given name Anderson appears two generations later in the family of Charles, but this particular Anderson is unidentified.
1 Jun 1819. Virginia land patent issued to Charles Waddill. Located Pittsylvania County, 116 acres on branchs of lower Sandy Creek of the Dan beginning at Woodies Corner. Grants #68, p.199
This tract is located in Property Lines from the Old Survey Books: Pittsylvania Co VA, 1746-1840 by Roger C. Dodson, page 15-B He was near Thomas Walters, William Durrett, Edward Burgess, etc. On Sandy Creek of the Dan. Surveyed 13 Aug 1818. The following census records indicate this was always the neighborhood of the Waddills in Pittsylvania Co.
1820 Census. Pittsylvania Co VA
Charles Waddle 2m -10 [Albert & Branch], 2m 10-16 [Pleasant & young Charles], 1m 16-18 [Charles repeated], 1m 16-26 [Henry], 1m over 45 [Charles].
1f -10 [Ann/Mary], 1f 10-16 [Jane], 1f over 45 [Ann].
1830 Census. Pittsylvania Co VA Enumerated next to Noel.
Charles "Waddle", 1m 10-15 [Albert], 1m 15-20 [Branch], 1m 20-30 [could be Henry, young Charles or Pleasant], 1m -age 60-70 [Charles himself], 1f age 15-20 [Ann/Mary] no apparent spouse.
He should have been age 55 if he was born in 1775 and his wife Ann seems to be absent - the records do show she died in 1821.
The will of Charles Waddil [no date given in the online information] is said to be as follows: One third of his land and slaves to son Pleasant. Land and slaves to son Branch. Land and slaves to son Albert who was then under age [death of Charles is said to have been in 1834 and Albert would have been age 16]. Other heirs: Daughter Nancy, wife of Coleman Williams, son Henry, son Noel, daughter Jane and her daughter Elizabeth, daughter Bitsy [Obedience] wife of Henry Richardson, daughter Sally, wife of Beverly Seamore, son Marshall, son Charles. Also mentions Josiah Richardson and the heirs of Richard Richardson who may have been married to one of Charles' daughters. Pleasant Waddill is said to have filed a lawsuit regarding the estate.
Conflicts between this will abstract and the information from Mrs. Mary Waddill of McCracken Co KY are as follows.
(1) Mary stated she had changed her name from Ann to Mary. There was no daughter named Ann but there was a Nancy, the usual nickname for Ann, and she was married to a Coleman Williams. It would seem perhaps Ann/Nancy/Mary had reverted to her maiden name. The letters are supposed to have been written in 1902 & the lady was stated to have been of Woodville, McCracken Co KY. I have found no one of her age or name in the 1900 census in McCracken Co. I did find who I believe was Mrs. Mary Williams and was able to trace her backwards. See her notes. There is no evidence she was "of" McCracken Co.
(2) Mary stated that her oldest sister Sally at age 15 [about 1809] was married to Henry Richardson and that after Sally died, Henry married sister Obedience, called Bidzy. Sally is said to have had four children by Henry Richardson.and died in 1817. He married Obedience in 1818 & she died in Kentucky in 1860. The children by the marriage to Sally were Josiah, Richard, Marshall who died young, and Susan. The will does refer to Josiah & heirs of Richard which were probably the surviving children of Sally.
(3) The will mentions daughter Sally, married to Beverly Seamore. Daughter Jane is not mentioned in the will, although all the other children of Charles are accounted for. I believe Jane must have been married to Seamore and this is an error, either in the abstract or in the original will.
