Next door is James M. Waddell, age 36, Farmer b. VA. Marked as "White" but has the following mulattoes living with him: Eliza Lewis, age 26. Ellis F. Lewis, age 2. James Lindsay, 18, domestic servant. I suspect he was also mulatto, quite possible these are former Waddill slaves, he was just lighter than the others.

Living in the Subdivision north of Dan River, but Chatham P.O., Hh 1742:
Pleasant Waddill, age 30, farmer, b. VA. Mary 27, b. VA
Henry age 5 and George age 2.

1880 Census. Did not find Pleasant. But this could be Martha, living in the Dan River District, Hh 564
Martha Waddell, age 80. Mary E. Motley, age 45, daughter. Mattie L. Jewett, age 7, and Mary J. Jewett, age 4, great granddaughters.

In the letters of "Aunt Mary" there was mentioned a cousin Mary E. Motley of Danville - I believe this would be the daughter of Pleasant & Martha, born about 1836. In 1880, Martha appeared to be living with Mary. I checked the 1860 & 1870 censuses to see if I could find more about Mary E.
1860, Danville, Southern District of Pittsylvania Co, Hh 718
Jordan D. Motley, age 34. Mary 3. age 25. Alice G. 8, John P. 6, Martha 4, and "Babe" [female] age 1.
1870, Chatham P.O. Subdivision north of Dan River where Pleasant Waddill, the younger, was also living. Hh 2514 and also Hh 4661 [these entries are identical as are the neighbors]
Jordan Motley, age 44. Mary E. age 37. Alice J. 16, John P. 14, Martha 12, Celestia 10, and Elizabeth age 9.

An online database gave a marriage: Jordan Motley to Mary Eliza Waddill, 9 Dec 1851 in Pittsylvania Co VA. The same database offered a maiden name for Martha, her mother, as Martha Wilson. Martha Wilson married Pleasant Waddill, 12 Dec 1832, Pittsylvania Co VA. The database suggested that Pleasant & Martha's daughter, Sarah A., born about 1836, married Henry Terry, 10 Sep 1856 in Pittsylvania, which explains little Martha "Patty" Terry.
