John Henry Kirkpatrick

John Henry Kirkpatrick was born 5 May 1862 and died 2 January 1944. He is buried in Elmwood Cemetery, Fort Lawn, Chester County, South Carolina. He married on 22 December 1883 at Salem Crossroads, Horry County, South Carolina, to Harriet Jane Gladney, daughter of George Bunyon and Hattie (McGill) Gladney. She was born 20 September 1865 and died 27 April 1904. She is buried at Heath Chapel Church Cemetery, Chester County, South Carolina. In 1907 John Henry married for the second time to Frances Emily Gladney, his first wife's sister. She was born 15 February 1873 and died in August 1951. She is buried in Elmwood Cemetery, Forest Lawn, Chester County, South Carolina.
There were ten (10) children born of the first marriage.

Stroke Fatal to Fort Lawn Farmer; Funeral Tomorrow. chester, Jan. 3---(Special)---John Henry Kirkpatrick, 81, widely-known farmer and citizen of near Fort Lawn, died today at his home following a stroke of paralysis which he suffered Sunday night. He had been in good health prior to the attack. He was twice married, first to Miss Hattie Gladney of Monticello and sometime following her death, he married her sister, Miss Frances Gladney. The following children survive the first marriage: William Murray Kirkpatrick, Great Falls; Mrs. Arthur F. Miller, Edgemont, N. C.; Mrs N. Malone Yongue, Fort Lawn; James McGill Kirkpatrick, Atlanta, Ga.; Joe Gladney Kirkpatrick, Blacksburg; Mrs. Ernest Crosby, Fort Lawn; Mrs. William Green Anderson, Chester and George Bunyan Kirkpatrick, Thorsby, Ala. By his second marriage, a son survives, Aiken Kirkpatrick, Bishopville; a sister Mrs. John Davis Sanders of Chester also survives, along with 12 grandsons. Mr. Kirkpatrick's parents were the late George Washington Kirkpatrick and the late Mrs. Sarah Sealy Kirkpatrick. He was a member of the Fort Lawn Methodist church and took a wide interest in all phases of church activities. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday morning at 11 o'clock at the Fort Lawn Methodist church, the Rev. J. H. Montgomery of Fort Lawn and the Rev. W. A. Duckworth of Rock Hill, officiating, after when interment will be made in the Fort Lawn cemetery. The nephews will act as pallbearers.
