Nickname:<NICK> Tom BIOGRAPHY: Grandson Arthur C. penned these wor ds about Tho mas and Nancy: "...both Nancy and Thomas Query were memb ers of the Mount Pleas ant Church which was also known as 'Buckskin' . Tom and Nancy moved around a gr eat deal. They probably lived in m ore different houses than almost any other f amily in Owen County. Al though I do not know, I think it unlikely that any two of their child ren were born in the same house. Tom, thus, was a rolling stone . H e supplied more of the family food from collecting in the wild, huntin g gam e, fishing and selling "sang" (ginseng) than did most. A settle d life in one s pot as a farmer was not his lifestyle." The Buckski n Church (now destroyed) go t its name originally when folks in the ar ea were contributing money towards it s construction. It is said tha t one poor farmer had contributed a deer (buck) skin rather than money . Thereafter, the church was known as Buckskin. Today, the church i s gone and only the now renamed cemetery, Mount Pleasant, remains.
