From Elkader Weekly Register, 29 July 1886: "Death of an early settler. At his home in Wagner township, on Thursday night of last week, occurred the death of David Jones, one of the earliest settlers of that township. His death was caused by paralysis of the brain. Deceased came to this county over thirty years ago, and has always lived in Wagner township. His wife died some time ago, but he leaves six children and a host of friends to mourn his loss."
From Elkader Weekly Register, 29 July 1886: "Notice of Proof of Will. State of Iowa. Clayton County. Estate of David Jones, deceased. To Willis Jones, known heir at law of David Jones late of said county, deceased, and to all others concerned: You are hereby notified. That on the 27th day of July, A. D. 1886 in vacation of Circuit Court of Clayton county Iowa, the Clerk opened and read an instrument in writing purporting to be the last will and testament of David Jones, late of said county, deceased, and you are further notified that the first day of the next term of said court commencing on the 18th day of November, A. D. 1886, has been set by the Clerk as the day for the final hearing and proof of said will, at which time all persons interested may appear and show cause why the same should not be admitted to probate. Dated July 27th, 1886. James E. Corlett, Clerk. By M. P. Dunn, Deputy."
