In the 1850 Census he and his family are living in Jackson, Mahoning County, Ohio he as a Collier profession (coal miner or coal trader).
In his father's will, it is documented that Samuel is deceased in 1865. Researchers have not been able to find (as of 2016) him in the 1860 Census (although his wife and family are in it) or in a death or burial record. His youngest child, Hannah Jane, is born about 1859.
