Researcher Curtis Jones has Orrin listed in the 1855 Census (Family number 189) of Chautauqua County, New York in Ellery, with his wife, daughter Jane, son Emet and an infant son (probably Edgar). All were born in Chautauqua County, New York. Orrin did not own the land. He found that an Orrin Jones of Gerry was sent to the state asylum with the time of filing at 3 February 1845. There is also a record of an Orin Jones going to and from the Chautauqua County, Alms House and Asylum. He was sent there from Ellery at about the age of 35 because of lunacy on August 16, 1853. He returned from Ellery on 4 July 1854. He then went back again on 20 September 1856. After Orrin moved to Pennsylvania around 1861 he was listed as insane in the 1870 Census. Erastus Love, Melissa's father was living with the family at that time.
In 1870 the family is in Troy, Crawford County, Pennsylvania, Page 4, family 33, dwelling 32 and along with Orrin and Melissa, there are eight children and Melissa's father, Erastus Love.
In 1880 the family is in Troy, Crawford County, Pennsylvania, Page 316A and along with Orrin and Melissa there are five children; Maggie, Ethan, Lincoln, Ollie and Grant..
