The Rev. Willis C. Furr of 1647 Kendale, a retired Baptist minister, died at 5:50 a.m. yesterday at Resthaven Nursing Home. Services will be 10:30 a.m. tomorrow at Memphis Funeral Home on Union with burial in McElroy Cemetery near Wynne, Ark. The Rev. Mr. Furr, who was 76, came to Memphis in 1918 to serve as pastor of Trinity Baptist Church of Whitehaven. In 1925 he became associate pastor of the old Central Baptist Church and served at Whitehaven Baptist Church from 1932 until his retirement in 1959. After retirement he was interim pastor of Beverly Hills Baptist Church, McLean Baptist Church, Eudora (Miss.) Baptist Church, Arlington Baptist Church and Mallory Baptist Church. The Rev. Mr. Furr served 13 years as chairman of the Mission Committee, which established 46 Baptist Churches in Shelby County during that period. He was chairman of the board of trustees of the Shelby County Baptist Association and a member of the board of trustees of Union University at Jackson, Tenn. When he retired as its pastor, Whitehaven Baptist Church paid his expenses for a tour of the Holy Land.
