Death
STANFIELD - Archie Clayton Furr, 80, of 101 East Raleigh Street, Stanfield, died Sunday, May 16, 2004, at his home. The funeral will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Hartsell Funeral Home Chapel in Midland. Burial will follow at Locust United Methodist Church cemetery. The Rev. Duane Ivey and Rev. Bruce League will officiate. The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at Hartsell Funeral Home in Midland. At other times they will be at the home on Raleigh Street. Born June 25, 1923, in Stanly County, he was the son of the late Clemmie Clontz Furr and Archie Baxter Furr. He was retired from Mecklenburg County as an operator of heavy equipment and was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was also a member of Locust United Methodist Church. Mr. Furr was preceded in death by his wife, Edna Bertha Hathcock Furr. Survivors include two sons, Dale Furr of Midland and Jimmy Furr of Charlotte; a daughter, Judy Taylor of Concord; a sister, Margie Hatley of Asheboro; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a special friend, Geneva Mullis. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Stanly County, 960 N. First St., Albemarle, NC 28001, or to Locust United Methodist Church, Fairview St., Locust, NC 28097.
