Death
Bertha Edna Hathcock Furr, 76, of 2204 Barkley Road, Midland, died Thursday, March 8, 2001, in Carolinas Medical Center. Her funeral will be at 4 p.m. today with a 30-minute state in Locust United Methodist Church, where she was a member. The Rev. Leslie Wray and The Rev. Jessie Rushing will officiate and burial will be in the church cemetery. Born Aug. 19, 1924, in Chesterfield County, S.C., she was a daughter of the late John Webster and Carolyn Lula Hatley Hathcock and was a retired spinner for Cannon Mills. She is survived by her husband, Archie Furr of the home; two sons, Jimmy Furr of Charlotte and Dale Furr of Midland; a daughter, Judy Taylor of Concord; a brother, James Hathcock of Midland; three sisters, Beulah Brooks of Locust, Grace Helms and Carolyn Kiker, both of Matthews; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Memorials may be made to Locust United Methodist Church Cemetery Fund, 412 Church St., Locust, NC 28097.
