Death
Mr. Robert M. Furr 85, of Raleigh formerly of Dunn, died Sunday at Morningside Assisted Life Center in Raleigh. The Stanly County native was a son of the late Robert N. and Sally McCurdy Furr and was preceded in death by a daughter; Sarah Furr Cox. Mr. Furr started his law enforcement career as a Wildlife agent, before being elected Sherriff of Stanly County; he left the Sherriff’s department to serve as an ATF Agent until his retirement in 1978. He served as an Investigator for the District Attorney Office with the 11th Judicial District before serving as Chief of Police with the Dunn Police Department. He was a member of Palmyra Masonic Lodge #147, Scottish Rite Bodies, Sudan Shriner, and Dunn Shrine Club, where he was chairman of the Golf Tournaments for several years, and was an active member of Divine Street United Methodist Church. Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 AM Wednesday at Skinner & Smith Funeral Home with Rev. Madison Hankal officiating. Burial will be at 4:00 PM in Fairview Memorial Park in Albemarle, NC. Survivors include his wife; Evelyn Underwood Furr, daughters; Mary Lynn McLeod and husband Terry (Mac) of Wilson, Jennifer Blehm and husband Michael of Houston TX., a sister Ruby Henley of Albemarle, Grandchildren; Rachel Wineinger, Carley McLeod, and Morgan McLeod. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 10:00 until 11:00 A.M. at Skinner & Smith Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial may be made to; Sudan Shriner’s Children’s Hospital, P.O.
