Death

ROCKWELL — John Claudie Furr, 69, of 5756 Sapp Road, died April 17, 1988, at Cabarrus Memorial Hospital after a serious illness of a week. The funeral will be held at 4 pm Tuesday at Lane Street Baptist Church in Kannapolis, conducted by the Rev. Gene Edwards, pastor. Burial will be in Carolina Memorial Park. The family will be at Whitley's Funeral Home in Kannapolis tonight from 7 to 9 and the remainder of the time at the home of a daughter, Bertha Mae Miller of 4649 Pless Road. Born Sept 12, 1918, in Cabarrus County, he was a son of the late John P. and Etter Mae Furr. Formerly employed at Cannon Mills Co., Plant One, number six weave room, he had retired in 1984. He was a US Navy veteran of World War II. Survivors, in addition to his daughter, include his wife, Mildred McClester Furr, a son, Johnny Fred Furr of Rockwell, a foster daughter, Dianne Mullis of Concord, four brothers, William Robert and Walter Lee Furr, both of Stanfield, Perry Furr of Kannapolis and Fred Furr of Concord. Eight sisters, Maddie Harvell and Leddie Russ, both of Concord, Lena Adams of Stanfield, Ruby Drye of Kannapolis, Bessie O'Brien of Asheboro, Annie Hurlocker of Greensboro, Bertie Halloman of High Point and Ruth Herlocker of Mount Pleasant, five grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
