Death
William Robert “Rob” Furr Locust—Mr. Furr, 89, passed away on Saturday, September 19, 2009, at Stanly Regional Hospital in Albemarle. Visitation will be held on Monday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at Hartsell Funeral Home in Midland. Funeral services will be on Tuesday, September 22, 2009 at 4:00 p.m. at Bethel Baptist Church in Locust, followed by burial in the church cemetery. Reverend Jim Hopkins officiating. Rob is survived by his wife of 69 years, Ruth Smith Furr, and two sons: Robert (Bob) E. Furr and wife Margaret, and Rodney D. Furr and wife Diane of Locust. He has 11 grandchildren: Bartlette Compton of Charlotte, William Furr of Charlotte, and Robert Furr of Monroe, Trishona “Shoney” Morton of Salisbury and James “Jamie” Furr, Danielle Furr, Rod Furr, Ronnie Furr, Elizabeth “Beth” Furr, Nicole “Nikki” Furr, and Kali Furr all of Locust and nine great-grandchildren. He is also survived by one brother and four sisters of Concord. Born on January 8, 1920 in Locust to John and Etta Brittian Furr, Rob lived his entire life in Locust, where he owned and operated Furr’s Garage and farmed until retirement. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and Eastern Star Chapter in Midland and attended Bethel Baptist Church. The family is grateful to Rachel Harwood, Betty Bracey and Betty Vasu for the wonderful care and friendship they provided Mr. Furr and his wife during recent months.Endnotes
