Marriage
ROBERT FURRS TO BE HONORED DECEMBER 18Newspaper.
Mr. and Mrs. Robert Furr of Route 1, McKinney, will be honored by their children and grandchildren at a reception December 18 from 2 to 4 o’clock. The occasion is in observance of their Golden Wedding anniversary. They were married Dec. 21, 1916 in Walnut Grove Presbyterian by Rev. Stanifer.
Mrs. Furr is the former Norma Hickey, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Hickey, of Foote. She was born and reared on a farm near her present home. Mr. Furr is a native of Albermarle, N. Carolina, coming to Collin County as a small boy and has since resided in and around McKinney. Mr. and Mrs. Furr are active members of the Walnut Grove Presbyterian church. Their children and grandchildren are Mr. and Mrs. Winston Furr and son, Gary, Tyler; Dr. and Mrs. Frank Cashon Jr. and two daughters, Cindy and Lisa Kay of Kilgore. They lost two sons, Robert Francis, at the age of two and Jim Hickey Furr who was killed in “World War II. All friends and relatives of the Furrs are invited to attend their anniversary party.
Death
Robert N. Furr, 82, of the Foote community, died 7:30 p.m. Saturday in Wysong Nursing Center. He was born Dec. 19, 1891 in Albemarle, N.C., the son of James and Martha Drye Furr. He was retired farmer and a member of the Walnut Grove Presbyterian Church, which he joined in 1918, serving 25 years as a Sunday School teacher and 50 years as a deacon and elder. He was married Dec. 21, 1916 in Walnut Grove Presbyterian Church to the former Norma Hickey, who survives. Other survivors include one son, Winston Furr of Tyler; one daughter, Mrs. J.F. Cashon of Kilgore; three grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Kali Woods of McKinney, Mrs. Lottie Bryant of Allen; three brothers, Clarence Furr of McKinney, DeWitt Furr of Dallas, Lee Furr of Ennis. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sons, three sisters, four brothers. Funeral services were held 10 a.m. today in in Horn- Harris-Crouch chapel with Rev. Robert Thompson, Rev. Charles Dowell, and Rev. Charles LaRue officiating. Interment was in Walnut Grove Cemetery.The Courier-Gazette, McKinney, Texas, August 5, 1974
