Joseph BOUCHER
(26 Jan 1820 - 26 Jul 1889)
Birth and baptism from church records of Notre-Dame de Montreal (FHL #0375849).
First marriage (Margaret Donahue) info from St. John the Baptist Church, Syracuse, New York, by correspondence. Witnesses were John Renaud and Francesca Reddy. The bride's name was spelled Margarita Donoghue. The 1855 NY State Census shows this family living in the village of Liverpool, town of Salina, Onondaga County. See general notes for Margaret Donahue for more on the research into this family in Liverpool.
In 1861, this first family was living in Yamachiche, St-Maurice Co., Québec with Joseph's parents. His occupation was listed as "chasseur" (hunter?). Joseph is listed as a widower. (1861 Census, Yamachiche, p.182)
Second marriage (Olivine Duchemin) info from church records of Ste-Anne- d'Yamachiche (LDS FHL #1288928). Marriage record indicates that both of them were living in Yamachiche at the time of the marriage.
Transcript of obituary, from The Eagle (Marinette, Wisconsin; Saturday, August 3, 1889:

Mr. Boucher had been a resident of Marinette for 20 years. For the past few years he had been in quite poor health and died very suddenly. His remains were followed to the grave by a large number of friends who deeply sympathize with the family in their bereavement.

Marriage
Marriage information obtained, by correspondence, from the rectory of St. John the Baptist Church. Joseph Boucher married Margarita Donoghue on 18 April 1844. Witnesses were John Renaud and Francesca Eddy.Census (family)
Enumerated with this family were Joseph Bush, age 34; his wife, Margaret, age 27; and children: Margaret, age 10; Henry, age 8; James, age 6; George, age 3; and Mary, age 1. Also in this home, but listed as a separate family were James Donahue, age 61, a widower; and his sons: Thomas Donahue, age 33; and James Donahue, age 22.The house was a frame one, valued at $150 -- quite low compared to others on the page. It states that Joseph had been in the state for four years, and that Margaret had been there for sixteen years. This latter is somewhat confusing. She was certainly up in Quebec for a few recent years, as two of her children were born there. Does the sixteen years ignore that absence, and mean that she immigrated in 1839? (This "serial migration," in which family members came one or two at a time, was common with the Irish.) Or did she come with her father, who had been there for 21 years? In that case, she probably spent five of her married years in Quebec, and the enumerator simply subtracted that from the twenty-one.
Census
Enumerated with this family were Joseph Boucher, a menuisier (carpenter, joiner), age 72; Marguerite Saucier, age 66; and Marguerite Boucher, age 36. Immediately following is the family of Joseph Boucher fils, a widower, age 41, listed as a chasseur (hunter), and his children: Henry Boucher, age 15; James Boucher, age 13; George Boucher, age 11; Antoine Boucher, age 5; Marguerite Boucher, age 16; and Marie Boucher, age 7.http://interactive.ancestry.com/1570/4108840_00005?backurl=http%3a%2f%2fsearch.ancestry.com%2fsearch%2fdb.aspx%3fdbid%3d1570%26path%3d&ssrc=&backlabel=ReturnBrowsing#?imageId=4108840_00392

Census (family)
The original image now displayed on FamilySearch is extremely faded -- nearly illegible. The microfilm copy is light, but quite readable.Enumerated with this family are:

-- Malvina Bush, age 46, wife of above. Born in Canada.
-- James Bush, age 32, Real estate dealer. Born in Canada.

-- Edward Bush, age 24. Laborer. Born in New York.

Residence (family)
1885 Wisconsin State Census: Joseph Bush. Household was composed of six males and five females. ( I have a photocopy of this record, with no film number. Must have found it early in my research. Legal-size copy. Can't find the same image in online version.)Another listing for a Joseph Bush, also in Marinette, shows 2 males and 3 females: one born in the United States and the other four in British North America. Which is the right Joseph Bush?

Residence (family)
Listed as "boarding" in the home of Joseph Bush were the following: J. H. Boucher, Miss Delia Bush, and Miss Libbie Bush. I would assume that "J. H. Boucher" refers to Joseph Honoré, but I am surprised that he uses the "Boucher" surname. Might this actually refer to the father? And which of the daughters was called "Libbie?' I don't have another record of a daughter called by that name. Would it have been Olvina? She would have been 14 years old at the time.1885 Wisconsin State Census: Joseph Bush
There are at least two Joseph Bush families on this census. Is this one mine? Or neither. This Joseph usually used the "Boucher" surname.1880 Census: Joseph Bush, age 60
