On the 1860 U. S. Census of Bean Blossom, Monroe Co., Indiana, Saml Briscoe appears with his wife Margaret and children Dulcina, Winfield S., William L., Elizabeth W. and Amelia C. All members of the family were born in Indiana. Samuel is a merchant. The Post Office is Stineville.
Samuel moved to Decorah, Winneshiek Co., Iowa. From here he drove with his brother Thomas Jefferson Briscoe to Ft. Atkinson, Iowa and enlisted Aug. 14, 1862 in Company E, 38th Iowa Vol. Infantry. He was discharged due to disease. After his death his wife and children returned to Indiana.
