Amelia Catherine Briscoe

From the Bloomington Telephone, Bloomington, Indiana, May 21, 1956: Stinesville's Oldest Citizen Dead at 97, Rites Tuesday for Mrs. Fox. Stinesville's oldest resident, Mrs. Amelia Fox, died Sunday morning only a few days after she fell and suffered a broken hip, broken wrist and fractured pelvic bone. Mrs. Fox, who was 97 years old, died in the Reap Nursing Home at Spencer. Born Aug. 19, 1858 in Monroe County, she was the daughter of Samuel and Margaret (McCown) Briscoe. She was specially honored last summer at the Stinesville centennial as the oldest resident of the community. Her husband, William Fox died in 1922. She was a member of the Stinesville Baptist Church, where funeral services will be at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday with Rev. Wallace Scales officiating. Burial will be in Chambersville Cemetery. Friends may call at the Whitaker Funeral Home, Gosport. Surviving Mrs. Fox are a daughter, Mrs. Gladys Royer, of Spencer; a son Frank Fox, of Lafayette; 10 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
