On the 1860 U. S. Census of Decorah, Winneshiek Co., Iowa, Elias Briscow [sic] appears with his wife Louise and sons William A. and Samuel M.
Samuel M. Briscoe was in Company E, 38th Iowa Infantry in the Civil War.
On the 1870 U. S. Census of Napa, Napa Co., California, Elias H. Briscoe, age 34, born in Kentucky and working as a carpenter is living with Sarah Briscoe age 40 born in Pennsylvania. Elias' sons William, Samuel and James are living with their mother and her husband Andrew O. Lewis at Bluffton, Winneshiek Co., Iowa.
Ancestry.com submitters Edward and Sharon Froeschle show Elias living in Topeka, Kansas from 1883 to 1890. Two of his sons also lived in Topeka, William and Samuel.
