In "The Rise and Progress of the Serpent from the Garden of Eden" by Mary (Marshall) Dyer, page 156, he is listed as the fifth child in the family of Caleb Marshall and Zeruiah Harrimaqn.
1883 death date for his daughter, Maria Marshall, of 2 Dec. 1883 is per LDS film #1001087 "Death Index for New Hampshire" and shows her parents as Wm. Marshall born in Hamstead, Mass. and Margaret G. Jemison born Quebec.
1880 census covering his daughter, Evelina Ann Maria (Marshall) Johnson, showed her father was born in Mass. This may not be correct.
1833 Probate Records for estate of William Marshall of Brunswick, VT, appoints George Marshall administrator on 2 Nov 1833 with Margarett Marshall, widow (LDS film 28251).
1830 census shows a Wm. Marshall age 40-50 (he was 49) in Brunswick, Essex Co., VT, living with a woman age 40-50 (his wife Margaret was age 43) along with 1 male age 5-10 (may be son Benjamin 14), 2 males age 20-30 (may be sons William 24 and George 22), 2 females 15-20 (daughters Jane 16 and Mary 18), 1 female age 20-30 (daughter Evelina Ann Maria 26). There are similar neighbors show in this census as in the 1820 census.
1820 census shows a Wm. Marshall age 26-45 (he was 39) in Brunswick, Essex Co., VT, living with a woman age 26-45 (his wife Margaret Emerson was age 33) along with 1 male age 0-10 (this could be either son Richard 9 or Benjamin 4), 2 males age 10-16 (may be sons William 14 and George 12), 2 females (daughters Jane 6 and Mary 8) and 1 female (daughter Evelina Ann Maria 16).
1818-1826 Wm Marshall is mentioned in minutes of Brunswick town meetings as a Lister or Pole taxes in LDS film 889278 "Brunswick, VT Town & Vital Records 1796-1888".
1817 at the Brunswick town meeting on 21 April 1817, Wm. Marshall was elected Selectman per FHC film 889278 "Brunswick, VT Town & Vital Records 1796-1888" page 95.
1816 birth date and location of son Benjamin is from the IGI but shows the wrong father as Caleb Marshall.
1805-1806 the family must have moved from Northumberland, NH, birth place of William's first child, to Brunswick, VT, where the remaining children were born while living on a farm now called the Flanders place in Vermont. See "History of the town of Strartford NH 1773-1925" show above.
1805 at the Northumberland, NH, annual town meeting held on the second Tuesday of March 1805, William Marshall was elected as one of three town Surveyors of the Highways (LDS film 15260).
1803 marriage of (no location shown) William Marshall and Margarett Emerson on July 5th as reported in "State's copy of Records of Northumberland, NH, Volume 1" page 65 as reported by Hez Smith, Justice Peace received for Record 24th November 1804. 1803 marriage is also from the "History of the town of Stratford NH 1773-1925" source shown above. The IGI is incorrect showing Caleb Marshall marring Margaret Iemeson on that date.
1800 census for Northumberland, Grafton Co., NH, shows a Claeb Marshall age 45+ (which would be his father) living with two males age 16-25 (this would have been William and his brother Caleb), a male age 0-9 (unknown) and several women the oldest being over 45 (his mother). Living next door was his father's cousin Antipas Marshall.
1790 census for Northumberland, Grafton Co., NH, shows a Caleb Marshall, William's father. Living next door was Anthropos Marshall, a cousin.
1782 at the annual town meeting for Northumberland, NH, held on the second Tuesday of March 1782, Caleb Marshall, William father, was elected as one of the town's Select Men.

1781 birth date, but not location, is from the "History of the town of Stratford, NH, 1773-1925" by Jeannette R. Thompson, page 421 (LDS film 1321380 Item 1). This birth date may be incorrect in that the same source shows his sister, Mary "Polly", born on 7 August 1780, only 5 months earlier.1880 census covering his daughter, Evelina Ann Maria (Marshall) Johnson, showed her father was born in Mass. which I think is not correct.

The 1883 death date for his daughter, Maria Marshall, of 2 Dec. 1883 is per LDS film #1001087 "Death Index for New Hampshire" and shows her father as Wm. Marshall born in Hamstead, Mass. His birth location may be explained by the fact the family was possible in Hampstead during the time when the threat of Indians forced the family from Northumberland, NH, to their former home. (There is no Hamstead, Mass. and most likely was Hampstead, NH.)
