Ingvald G. Nygaard had the "quick stop" grocery store at the Kirkvold Gasoline Station in Hendricks in the late 1920's to 1934. The drought and the Depression of the Thirties caused the store to close and the Nygaard family moved to Rochester, MN. to find work. Ingvald began work for Dr. and Mrs. Charles Horace Mayo, of Mayowood, in 1935. Ingvald was a chauffeur and caretaker for the Doctors Charles H. Mayo and Charles W. Mayo for 14 years while living in Mayowood. He later worked at the Institute Hills Farms as animal caretaker and at the Medical Science Building in Rochester, MN.

Ingvald G. Nygaard, 74, of 715 13th Ave. S. E., Rochester, MN. died Sunday of a heart attack at Rochester Methodist Hospital. He was born August 32, 1903, in Hendricks, MN. and married Marcella Hanson in Hendricks on August 19, 1926. He retired in 1968. Surviving are his wife; one daughter, Mrs. Irvin (Lorenchia) Scott of Bloomington, MN.; one son, Wayne of Rochester; four grandchildren; four brothers, Marvin, of St. Paul, Oscar of Minneapolis, Elmer and Clarence both of Hendricks, and one sister, Mrs. Dora Kvernmo of Hendricks. One brother and one sister preceded him in death. The funeral is 2 P.M. Wednesday at Bethel Lutheran Church with the Rev. John Friedli officiating. Burial will be in Grandview Memorial Gardens.

He played baritone in the Hendricks band in the late 1920's and early 1930's. He never had piano lessons but he could play hymns on both the piano and organ by reading the music. He was self-taught in the baritone, piano & organ, accordion, violin and Hawaiian guitar.
