Obituary for Marcella Hanson - Rochester, MN.

The funeral for Marcella Nygaard will be 2 p.m. Monday at Ranfranz Funeral Home Chapel in Rochester with the Rev. Julie Rogness officiating. Burial will be at Grandview Memorial Gardens in Rochester. Mrs. Nygaard, 96, a resident of Maple Manor Nursing Home in Rochester, died Friday (July 20, 2001) at the home. Marcella Hanson was born December 17, 1904, in Rock Dell, MN. She was raised in Rock Dell and Hendricks, MN. She married Ingvald Nygaard on August 19, 1926 in Hendricks. They lived there until 1934 when the moved to Rochester. She was member of Bethel Lutheran Church in Rochester and Sons of Norway. She enjoyed square and round dancing. Survivors include one daughter, Lorenchia (Irvin) Scott of Annandale, MN.; one son, Wayne (Elie) Nygaard of Rochester; four grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Verna Wharton and Vivian Johnson, both of Rochester. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1977, six brothers and one sister. Memorials are preferred to Bethel Lutheran Church.

Marcella played the piano and the organ. She had sung many solos in the Singsaas Church when she was a young lady. The practice for the Sunday morning solos were done in the parsonage which is now located in the Museum Park near Lake Hendricks.

Marcella was the oldest daughter in the family of 10 children. Her parents were farmers and Marcella went to a country school. From the time she was about 12 years, she would stay home from school at least one day a week to help her mother with the baking and clothes washing.
