Remembrances about Grandfather Nels
I saw my Grandfather Nels only once since we lived in Hendricks and my maternal grandparents lived on a farm near Douglas, MN. My mother told us that Grandpa Nels kept his fields free of weeds and he would cut the grass and weeds around the fields by hand with a scythe. He liked things in order. The Depression and the years of drought were very difficult for the farmers in S. D. and western Minnesota. That was the reason for my maternal grandparents return to the Rochester area.
