Dora Caroline Kvernmo was born April 17, 1907, in Hendricks Township on the Nygaard farm homestead, Lincoln County, Minnesota, the daughter of Gustav and Petra Fjeseth Nygaard. Dora died November 5, 1995, at the Hendricks community Nursing Home where she had been a resident for nine years.
She was baptized by Rev. Solensten, and was confirmed by Rev. O. L. Christenson in the Lutheran Faith at the Lutheran Free Church in Hendricks, Minnesota. She attended country school in District #5 located one mile north of Hendricks. She was a member of Christ Lutheran Church. She was united in marriage to Clarence Oscar Kvernmo on December 29, 1932 and to this union two children were born, Pearl (Mrs. Rudy Hamer) and Glen, both of Hendricks. They farmed "City View Farm" until 1956, at which time they moved into Hendricks where they made their home. Her husband, Clarence, died in 1971.
Dora loved her church. She was active for many years in the First Lutheran Church as Sunday School teacher and Ladies' Aid member. She loved to sing and was a member of the choir and a women's quartet. Dora was a pioneer woman. Her life was not always an easy one. She helped with the farm work and in between household chores, milked cows, raised chickens and a large garden. She thoroughly enjoyed baking, cooking and crocheting. Dora loved fun and was well known for her joking and playful tricks. She was happiest when she was helping her family. Dora was a kind and loving daughter, sister, mother, mother-in-law and grandmother. She is survived by her daugher, Pearl; daughter-in-law, Gail; six grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, son, Glen; six brothers, Clarence, Marvin, Elmer, Oscar, Ingvald, and Gehard and a sister, Alma. In the eulogy given by niece, Lorenchia Nygaard Scott, we were reminded of how happy she was to see her family. "Dora would come running out of her house with a big smile on her face when we came to visit. It makes me think that's the way our Heavenly Father welcomed Dora home".
