They were among the first settlers in that area, and their daughter knew many of the trials of pioneer life. She lived her entire lifetime in this area. Petra became a member of the Calvary Lutheran Church after her marriage to Gustav Nygaard..

Serving as pallbearers were Bennie Hindbjorgen, Even Lovro, Orville Berge, Pete Berge, Pete Hagen and Gilbert Eggen. Burial was in the East cemetery beside the remains of Mr. Nygaard who had passed away in August, 1948. She was also preceded in death by three sisters and one brother.
Rembrances of Grandma Petra - by Granddaughter, Lorenchia Nygaard Scott
Grandma would have the cookie jars filled with rolled sugar cookies and rolled molasses cookies. The brown sugar lumps that she made were in the kitchen cabinet, lower left shelf. The flat bread was filled to the top in a large keg type of container. An ironed linen towel was placed on the top of the flat bread held down by a large board which was covered with a large white iron cloth. Grandma knew the foods that were liked and enjoyed by her grandchildren and family. Grandma was a small lady but she surely could get those hens off the nest when she wanted to gather eggs. Grandma loved flowers and she had them around the house and in special gardens. When visiting the farm every summer, my cousin, LeVonne and I would wash the separator containers and we always got the job of scrubbing the potatoes for supper. It was fun because we could do that outdoors. Grandma was a faithful Christian because her parents had been an example for her and her brother, Peter. Grandma Petra was so very kind, generous and loving. Grandma taught me that loving and caring for people was more important than loving material things.
