Margaritha "Margaret" BRENIMAN

( - 26 May 1927)

Margaret came to America with her parents, settling in Ohio, moving to Poweshiek Co, Ia. in 1855. Her obituary states that she did not go to Nebraska with her husband when he went to homestead in the spring of 1871, but followed with two small children in October of that same year.
Her obituary also states that she was a woman who looked well to the ways of her household, rejoiced in her husband's success. She was glad for the attainments of her children, was always an inspiration to her husband. Her advice was always full of wisdom and her correction overflowing with love. She was a neighbor and friend to the whole community, a faithful friend, tried and true.
Very early in life she gave her heart to God and joined the Methodist Episcopal Church. She loved all churches that loved her Christ. It was in the Methodist Church in Iowa at whose alter she found God in the forgiveness of sins, and the Methodist Church was her home church.
Just a few mornings before she died, she was heard talking in the Swiss language. She had not used her mother tongue in years. She was repeating the Lord's Prayer.
Margaret died leaving 5 children, 17 grandchildren and 6 great children plus four brothers and sisters to mourn her.
Bonnie Van Campen, a great granddaughter of Margaret, sent me a copy of a letter Margaret wrote to her brother, Fred during the Civil War plus a translation since it is very hard to read. It's a long letter in which she tells her brother Fred something about nearly every member of the family, a wonderfully informative piece of work.
