David Greer

(January 20, 1772 - Bef 1840)

"Family moved to Arkansas." (ROYAL HERITAGE OF THE GREERS, by Carolyn Beal, 1993.)

"David Greer was born to James and Ann Haynes Lowe, probably in Bedford County, Virginia, on 20 January 1772. He was in the Wilkes County, Georgia Militia in 1793 with Henry and Thomas Greer. He was on the 1800 Oglethorpe County census and drew land in 1807 in the Hopkins District of Clarke County, Georgia. A David Greer is named as executor of Vinson Greer in Greene County, Georgia, but not known if this is the same David. David was on the 1820 Monroe County, Mississippi census along with Henry Greer, Sr. and some of his children. He was on Lowndes County, Mississippi census, age 40 - 60. (1830 Lowndes County Mississippi census: "David Greer - white males: 1 male ages 10-20, 1 male age 20-40, 1 male age 40-60; white females: 2 females ages 10-20, 1 female age 40-60.") David Greer married Mary Haynes, daughter of Henry Haynes, Jr. ca. 1787, probably in Oglethorpe County, Georgia. In an unpublished paper of James Micajah Greer, grandson of James Greer, Jr. it is stated that Ann Haynes Lowe Greer died at the home of her son, David, in Lowndes County, Mississippi and is buried in the graveyard of her son, Henry, near Columbus Air Force base where he and David both had family members buried.

"A Bible Record published in Family Puzzlers July 24, 1975, No. 405 as that of David Green, I believe is that of David Greer, along with that of a Hudspeth family. My reason for believing this is David Greer, not Green is that the birthdate exactly fits that of David Greer in the Texas DAR Patriot index under Lt. James Greer. Mary Haynes was born 12 April 1777. Henry Haynes, Sr. was the grandfather of both David and Mary Haynes, as was Aquilla Greer. Mary Greer was also on the 1850 (sic, should be 1840, page 136) Neshoba County, Mississippi with 1 m 20 - 30, 1 m 30 - 40, 1 m 40 - 50, 2 f 20 - 30, 1 f 60 - 70.

"The contributor of the Bible record was Mrs. Wallace O. Schultz, 10112 Jennrich, Garden Grove, California. Bible owner was Mrs. Sue Binnion MacAllister of Santa Ana, California, whose mother Mrs. Martin E. Binnion, Jr. passed it on to her. Other families are that of William Hudspeth and Caroline, his wife and Martin E. Binnion and Sarah E. Binnion who was Sarah Lavina Hudspeth born 21 January 1843 in Texas. Three of the Green/Greer girls married Hudspeths. How were they related to this William Hedspeth born in North Carolina in 1811 and Caroline, his wife? Was she really Nancy (Caroline) Greer born 1815?" (MY GREER LINEAGE, by Mary Lee Barnes, 1992, pages 50 - 51.)

"Mary (Sarah) Greer daughter of Aquilla and Elizabeth Greer, Sr. and brother of James Greer married Henry Haynes, Jr. Mary (Sarah) Greer and Henry Haynes, Jr. had a daughter, Mary Haynes that married her first cousin David Greer, son of James and Ann (Nancy) Haynes who had a son, David D. Greer." (Texas Society DAR Roster.)

"Mary Hyman was the first wife of David D. Greer, they married in Mississippi. Mary died Jan. 15, 1845 Drew Co., Arkansas after the birth of her son, William Sylvester Greer, on 12 Jan 1845. Eliza Jane Humber White Greer was born April 1824 near Atlanta, Georgia and died Nacogdoches Co., TX, buried at Old North Church Cemetery, Nacogdoches, Texas."
