Ann Eliza Trotter

(Bet 1818 and 1822 - February 12, 1901)

(NOTE FROM RALPH TERRY: Eliza Griffith was living in the Chickasaw Nation, Indian Territory in 1896, probably with a daughter or son, according to the HISTORY OF TEXAS, 1896 article. A family group sheet from Leta Vannoy shows Eliza to have died in 1896 and died in New Mexico.)

However, Larry Hock, Midland, Texas, sent the following information in August 2014:

"For many decades, most family researchers had believed that after Daniel's death, Anne Eliza moved to a reservation in Indian Territory, died and was buried there well before 1900. The following narrative report was excerpted from a journal published by Belle Hadley, (Anne's granddaughter and daughter Julianna Griffith) tells of the family's rediscovery of her grandmother living in the home of Jacob and Rebecca Hock in Polk County, Arkansas.

" "In August, 1897, we sold out and moved to Polk Co Arkansas and soon found Uncle Jake Hawks home. For several years my mother had Believed our grandmother, Anne Eliza Griffith, was dead, But when I run around the house there lay an old lady on the porch I said hello grandma, She raised up on her elbow and said who are you little girl. I said I was Belle, Juliana's baby girl, She said But Juliana is dead I said no she aint. By that time mother was in the house and what a happy meeting as both thought each other was dead.

"We stayed a while heare then moved over close to Potter and bought out a homestid. We took our grandmother along since she wanted to go with us. Aunt Rebecca Hawk I believe had 8 children. Her oldest child was Amanda then George and Jess then Lisie then Dan Martha and Willie, the baby, who was near my age.

"When we began our move to Texas, we took my grandmother with us in the wagon. We kids walked all day in the snow and that night we camped in an old House took grandmother out of the wagon and took her and set her By the fire Place and she sure enjoyed it as it was the first time she had been out of the wagon since we had left Potter Ark. We crossed the Red River and settled in Red River County, Texas. We lived here for 3 years and on Feb 12, 1901 my grandmother died and was buried on private property in an unmarked grave in Woodland Texas."
