Phone conversation, Jim Stavracos to Carol Kostakos Petranek, December 7, 2014: My father, Stavros, had moved to Baltimore in 1942. He went because he had a koumbari there (Kourkoulis from Sparta). He bought a restaurant in Baltimore in 1942. My father’s house was a central meeting place in Baltimore during the war as family members were coming and going to the war. My uncles worked with my father in the restaurant business in Baltimore. My mother was a great cook and entertainer.Then he moved to Long Island and opened the East Islip Diner in 1950. When the Sunrise Highway was built, it diverted traffic away from his restaurant and he had to get out. He moved to Florida at Kalimeres suggestion and bought a restaurant.
