Spartan Roots Family Trees
My name is Carol Kostakos Petranek (Χαρίκλεια Κωστάκου), and I am of Greek ancestry with roots in villages near Sparta. My paternal grandparents (Andrew John Kostakos & Hariklia Aridas) and maternal grandfather (Ilias Papagiannakos/Louis Pappas) were born in Agios Ioannis, and my maternal grandmother (Angelina Eftaxias) was born in Mystras. My great-and gr-gr-grandparents are from nearby villages. This website is part of my Village History Project to document families who lived in Agios Ioannis from the early 1800s-1950s. I also have family trees from several other villages near Sparta. The information on these families has been found in repositories in Sparta and in United States records. I hope this site will enable you to find information about your ancestors.
