A letter dated 15 Apr 1885 from Annie Riggs to Benjamin Amos in probate box 3 of Pike County, MO, probate of Mordecai Amos, says that she has had a letter from "Uncle Rob and Aunt Eliz" and they have found a good place. He said it was a good healthy climate with little wind and no storms and just freezes a little. He said it was White Oak timber and nearly all the trees have bees in them. She didn't think it was much of a farming county the way he wrote. Also said that Oliver lives in another county and had been to see them and left one of his boys. Also commented that Ida Russel lives close to them and has 3 children.
Another letter in that location was from Maggie Riggs dated 17 Jun 1885. She said she got a "letter from Aunt Bet this spring her and Uncle Robins both wrote to me." They told her they weren't very well and had both had rhumatism. They were living on a new place as they were "drowned out last summer". She said she would give Benjamin their post office, but it wasn't on this letter. Possibly it was on a separate paper that Benjamin kept.

Robin McCoy, 81 (1811) 5'5-3/4", fair complexion, blue eyes, gray hair, no marks, farmer, born Missouri, Cressy precinct, Livingston. Registered 18 Sep 1892 in Great Register of Merced Co., CA. LDS Film #0976937. Registration number wasn't visible on film.
His pension application says that in 1832 he was 5'7", blue eyes, dark hair, light complexion and a farmer. Elizabeth's application after his death said he was 5'8", dark eyes and black hair.
According to Indian War Pension papers dated 16 Dec 1892, signed in Fresno, CA, Robins stated that he was 82, a resident of Livingston, Merced Co., CA. He served in a company commanded by David Crow in the Illinois Infantry in the Black Hawk Indian war of 1832. He enlisted at Quincy, IL, and was honorably discharged at Quincy, IL. At the time he enlisted in 1832 he was 21 years (1811), 5'7" tall, blue eyes, dark hair, light complexion and was a farmer. Born in St. Charles Co., MO. Since leaving the service he resided in Missouri until the spring of 1852 and in California since that time. His wife's name was Betsy Amos; they were married 25 Dec 1836 at Clarksville, MO. He had not been previously married. He applied for and received bounty-land warrant No. 97035 for 120 acres about 5 Oct 1891. He signed his name and it was witnessed by J.F. Ward and H.A. Ward. J.F. Ward was 63 and H.A. Ward was 48, both residing at Berenda. They said they had known Robins for 51 and 48 years respectively.
Declaration of Widow for Pension states he was 21, 5'8", dark eyes, black hair and dark complexion. A farmer, born Pike Co., MO.
Affidavit by Harriet A. Ward, age 51. citizen of Berenda, County of Madera, State of California, stated that she was present at the death of Robins McCoy of 4 Jul 1894 near Livingston, Merced County. Also says that she certified that "I am in no wise interested in said case nor am I concerned in its prosecution." Signed and dated 8 Dec 1894.
Elizabeth McCoy's bible has written under deaths "Robins McCoy Died 1894 July the forth, (two words I can't read) eighty three years old."This is in different handwriting. Not sure if it is Elizabeth's or Ida Jane's.
According to Randy at the Modesto Cemetery Association, 18 Apr 2006, a fire in their office destroyed many records of old burials in the cemetery. He could confirm that Robin McCoy is buried there, but has no information beyond that - they don't know where on the grounds he is buried. There is a Mary McConnell, a child, and Harriet A. McConnell, no birth or death dates, both buried in Block 1 Lot 8. Their records do show there is a stone for Mary. Since Robins died in Livingston, Merced County, and is buried in Modesto, the most likely reason is that he was buried in a plot the family already owned, so it is highly probable he is there. "Merced County California Funeral Book 1877-1896", copy at the Tulare City Library, states that Robin McCoy, male, born Mo., residence Merced Co., Dr. W. N. Sherman, died 4 Jul 1894, Modesto cemetery, died near Livingston.
On 23 Apr 2006, author visited the cemetery and found the Lot. There is no stone for Robins, or for Harriet. In the entire lot, there is only one stone - an obelisk-shaped stone, with 4 sides that could contain inscriptions. Only 3 sides have names and information added. Photo of stone in file.
