Robert Poor

(Abt 1730 - 1803)

[Some of the Poor researchers do not believe that Robert Poor belongs in this family. Obviously there is much confusion because of the number of Thomas Poors found.]

I have found no other place for this man. It's always possible he was a cousin or other relative, rather than a brother to Thomas Jr. However Robert Poor did name a son Thomas and a daughter Susannah. It was a very "Virginia" thing to do, to name your children after your parents.

Sometimes the date of the marriage of Robert to Judith is based on the first recorded baptism of a child at St. James Northam parish. However, the marriage of daughter Mary and the Revolutionary service of son John would certainly indicate they were born earlier than the children whose baptisms were recorded - possibly prior to 1760. I believe several of the children were born prior to Thomas.
