Susannah Estes

(Abt 1688 - Aft 1754)

Goochland DB 4, p.433. Susannah, wife of Thomas Poor Senr. relinquished her dower in a deed of gift of 200 acres to Thomas Poor Junr. & Elizabeth his wife.

Deposition given 21 Oct 1754 by Susannah Poor. Susannah stated that about twelve years prior to the date of the deposition she was at the home of John Mosely with her husband Thomas Poor, dec'd., their son Thomas and his wife Elizabeth and their grandaughter Mary Poor, an infant about two years of age. That at the time and occasion John Mosely gave his granddaughter Mary Poor, a slave named Rose.

"listed as a ancient woman 21 Oct, 1754, while giving testimony in court. Page 22, James Book."

A lawsuit in Amelia Co VA Chancery Court, 1785, does indeed prove that Susanna was the daughter of Abraham & Barbara Estes by the depositions of two of her children - Thomas Poor and Elisabeth Harris in 1770. Refers to the wills of her parents and names her siblings as well.

I have also seen in a Moseley genealogy that she was Susannah Moseley, but she was placed in no family and no proof offered. Many have confused her with a later Susannah, daughter of Zachariah Haden, but Zachariah's daughter was two generations later.
