REGINA FROMAN

(Abt 1729 - Aft 1805)

Regina is found in databases as both a sister and a daughter to Paul Froman and Elizabeth Hite, daughter of Jost Hite. Since Paul gave land to three men - 200 acres to Henry Spears, 150 acres to Abraham Kellar, and 150 acres to William Overall - it is highly probable they were all his sons-in-laws. For this reason alone, I believe she was a daughter.

I believe the often seen guesstimated date of Regina's birth as 1725 is probably too early - she could have been born a few year later, say about 1728-1729. And the guesstimated dates of Paul Froman's birth [1708] and marriage [1731], are a bit too late. Therefore Regina has been made a "sister" by some in order to reconcile the conflict in dates.

The other children of Paul Froman and Elizabeth Hite were baptized by Rev. Stoever, but a child born a year or two earlier in Pennsylvania would have been baptized there, which could explain why Regina's baptism was not recorded. In his will Paul Froman leaves to daughters twenty dollars each, and to each of my deceased daughters to their husbands or children. In both cases, the word daughters is plural, suggesting at the least there were four daughters - only three were baptized by Rev. Stoever. Again, this leaves a place for Regina in the family.

Regina lived for some years after Henry died. In 1783, Rogina Speers was taxed in Rostraver Township, Westmoreland Co, PA. In 1786, she was recorded in a census in the same place. 31 Mar 1798, she conveyed a tract of land to David Furnier, according to a contract made by her husband.

There is a Pennsylvania Land Warrant, #157, dated 17 Dec 1784 in Westmoreland County for 150 acres - issued to Regina Spears, Executrix of Henry Spears, Deceased. Note on Warrant Card: Retd 16 May 1791. "including an improvement adjoining lands of Edward Cook, other land of Henry Spears and others in Rostraver Township"
