Sarah Jane Froman
(1732 - 1815)
Possibly first while girl born in the Shenandoah Valley.
Sponsor at her baptism: Susanna Weiszmaenn
Sarah is suggested by some to have married a John Overall, but this is an error. It is much more likely she was the wife of Nathaniel Cartmell.
Froman had purchased 120 acres on the north fork of Shenandoah River, cornering on Thomas Chester, from Jost Hite, 22 Nov 1742 [Orange Co VA DB 7, p.50. Paul and Elizabeth Froman then sold the same tract to Nathaniel Cartmell, 2 Mar 1760. Frederick Co DB 5, p.394 [Cartmell may have been married to a daughter - since his wife was Sarah...
Sarah may have been a daughter of Paul Froman. She is said to have lived until 1814 and left a will, naming son Martin with whom she was living, and sons Elijah and Jacob. Son Nathaniel witnessed the will. Daughters named were Elizabeth Larue (1st married Michael Archdeacon), Sarah Cochran, Rachel Crist, and Mary Willis.
Some have given her the surname Russell - but no proof exists.
