Joseph Jackson

(1700 - 1774)

Joseph's wife's name was Martha. They married ca 1733. This is the ancestor of Janice Friel, an excellent researcher who furnished much of the proof below. Online trees have planted a Joseph who married Ann Jarvis of Goochland VA in this place. I believe that is an error - names of children and grandchildren separate this family. I don't know who the father of the Joseph who married Ann Jarvis might of been, but I believe it was not Ralph Jackson.

Their children were:
1. Joseph Jr who married Francis Hatcher, dau of Henry Hatcher
2. Hezekiah married Elizabeth Pamplett/Pamplin on 11 Nov 1761 in Prince Edward Co VA. She was perhaps the daughter of William & Elizabeth Pamplett of Lunenburg Co. Two of their children were Josiah, born in Lunenburg, died in Jefferson Co TN; and Robert. Josiah married Susannah Fuqua 9 Aug 1785 in Charlotte Co VA.
3. Abel married Hannah Hancock daughter of Simon & Jane Flournoy Hancock
4. Cain married Druscilla Allen 13 Oct 1777 in Charlotte Co and married (2) Elizabeth Claybrook 9 Jun 1785. He died in 1821 in Charlotte Co.
5. Peter married Martha Ann Bass. He died in 1798 in Chesterfield Co VA where his will was probated Nov 1798.
6. Patience never married. VIRGINIA GAZETTE, 29 May 1778 "Miss Patience Jackson died in the bloom of life" [The articles "The Jacksons of Lower Virginia" state that Patience married Ezekiel Sudbury. In 1746, Martha Jackson, John Green & Ralph Jackson witnessed a deeds of gift from Ezekiel Sudbury to his son Ezekiel, "son of my wife Patience" By 1747, Patience had died and Ezekiel's wife was Anne. This seems to effectively remove all possibility that the right Patience has been identified as the wife of Ezekiel. Patience as a daughter of Joseph, would not have been old enough to marry Ezekiel Sudbury prior to 1747.]
7. Lucy married Joseph Powers, Jr., probably in Chesterfield Co VA. Book states he might have been a brother of Sampson Power who married Phoebe, dau of Ralph Jackson III, but then there is no such marriage given ????
8. Ezekiel married Sara Cogbill, daughter of George Cogbill and (2) Rhoda Dance on 22 Dec 1789 in Chesterfield Co.
9. Martha married Joseph Watkins, son of William Watkins, probably in Chesterfield Co. Joseph Watkins' will filed in Chesterfield in 1821. A son William was executor along with his mother.

Joseph was about 9 years old when his father died. Joseph inherited 100 acres on the North side of Swift Creek from his father - this was Henrico Co until 1749 when his property became part of the new Chesterfield Co. The following may/may not be a purchase of his:
