I have given David an arbitrary Birth about 24 years prior to his marriage.

12 Jun 1775 Moses Linster & wife Sarah to David "Stogdon", all of Rowan Co NC - 340 acres on Poplar Branch of Grants Creek adjoining Ancrew Allison. £180. Half of 680 acres granted by Earl of Granville to John Cathey, 2 April 1761, who will it to his son James Cathey, 9 Jan 1764 - James Cathey sold it to Moses Linster, 7 Mar 1771.
Wit: David Nisbet, William Nisbett - proved by William, 9 Aug 1777.

I'm not sure what this record is all about....
22 Oct 1776 John Steen of SC, bound to David Stockton of Rowan NC, £10,000 to make title for a tract on Thicketty Creek, adjacent land granted Adam Godelock, Capt. James Steen, & Francis Latimore, including 100 acres grated to Henry Titmore, in all 400 acres. To be paid by 1 Nov 1783. Proved and recorded 25 Sep 1787. [Union Co Probate Office Books 1 & 2, p.31-32; by Holcombe]
This may be the property where they lived in South Carolin - when the widow and son sold their property before moving to Tennessee, the deed mention Thickety Creek.

David is considered a Revolutionary War Patriot for giving 500 wt. of beef, 2 Aug 1782.

1 Aug 1783 David Stockton entered another 100 acres adjoining his own line on the south corner and running east, including both sides of the Moravian Road.

26 Oct 1784 David's father-in-law, William Haden, deed a slave woman and her son to his daughter Margaret "Stogden"

14 Jul 1791 Will of David Stockton, 96th District, Union county, SC. Beloved wife Margaret to have one half of all real and personal estate during her lifetime and then to be given to son Benjamin. Benjamin to have the remainder of the estate. William Buckhannon to be Executor, or he and son Benjamin to choose another person.

The son Benjamin was ultimately left to settle his father's business.
5 Feb 1795 John Troy, high sheriff of Rowan Co, on an execution against David Stockton, recovered by Thomas Speak with an order of sale, did sell on 4 Feb 1795, to Benjamin Stockton of Union Co, SC, two tracts of land. 200 acres on south bank of Yadkin River [see Grant #846] and another 20 acres on the Yadkin, down the meanders of the river and of the island, up the meanders and around the island [See Grant #883]. For £15.

5 Feb 1795 Benjamin Stockton sold to John Giles ____ acres on the Yadkin River, on the upper part of the island and down the river for £100.

11 Feb 1795 Benjamin Stockton of Union Co SC sold to John Giles of Rowan, 280 acres, North Yadkin River about 25 poles below the Horse Ford, across the swamp ...land that belonged to Col. Richmond Pearson and David Stockton, dec'd.
