Richard Stockton

(1710 - 21 Jul 1775)

Some sources state that Richard and Agnes Anthony married in Goochland Co which does seem possible.

Virginia Land Patents
30 Aug 1743. 400 acres, Goochland Co, both sides of Stocktons Creek. PB 21, p.503
23 Jul 1745. 400 acres, both sides Stocktons Branch of Mechums River, PB 34, p.19
10 Mar 1756 200 acres, branches N fork of Mechums River, now Albemarle Co. PB 34, p.60

Ivy Creek, 29 Mar 1747. The inhabitants of Ivy Creek and the Mountain Plain Congregation joined with the Congregation of Rockfish to call the Rev. Samuel Black to administer to them, according to the rules & practice of the Orthodox Reformed Presbyterian Church. Among the names that signed are William Whiteside [Whitsitt, later], and Thomas Whiteside, as well as Davis and Richard Stockton. In 1747, Richard is surely the Richard Stockton who died in Albemarle Co in 1775 - his sons David & Richard not old enough to be signing.

Albemarle Wills & Deeds 1; p. 341
26 Jun 1751 Richard Stockton, weaver, and Agnes his wife, of St. Anns Parish to Samuel Black for 150£ 400 acres both sides Stockton's Creek, Joel Terril's line. Signed: Richard (R) Stockton, Agness (A) Stockton. Wit: James Johnston, Thos. Reid.

"History of Albemarle County, Virginia" says that Richard Stockton lived
"in the fork of Mechum's [River], near the old Black place; in fact, that
place was a part of his land, he and his wife Agnes having sold 400 acres
to Rev. Samuel Black in 1751."
