Thomas Stockton, Sr., was born about 1740 in what is now Albemarle County, Virginia. He was a son of Richard and Agnes Stockton Sr. and a grandson of Davis Stockton.
What appears to be a valid marriage record for Thomas Stockton and Mary Golden is now seen as being complete fiction. A 1771 deed record and a 1799 deed record prove that the fist name of Thomas' wife was Mary. It is not known if Thomas was married just one Mary or if he had a second wife also named Mary.
By 1783 Thomas Stockton Sr and his wife Mary Stockton were living next to the French Broad River in what is now Sevier County, Tennessee. In about 1795 Thomas Stockton moved his family to what is now Clinton County, Kentucky. Thomas Stockton was the first settler in Clinton County and Stockton's Valley is named after him.
Thomas settled on Spring Creek in Stockton's Valley. He was one of the charter members of the Clear Fork Baptist Church.

Buried Irwin Cemetery, Clinton Co, KY.
