According to Beckwith's "History of Vigo County", Ira served one year in the Black Hawk War.

The Indiana State Libary had them married as the 11th of July 1819 - the database provided at FamilySearch has 1 July 1819, no image available. Joseph Dickson was officiator.

10 Dec 1822 In March of 1822, Ira's wife Lydia had sold a tract that had belonged to her father - perhaps they had been living there.

This Indenture made this tenth day of December in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and twenty two between Peter Allen and Mary his wife of the County of Vigo and State of Indiana of the first part and Ira Allen, son of the said Peter and Mary of the second part. Witnesseth that the said parties of the first part as well for and in consideration of the natural love and affection which they have and bear unto the said party of the second part as also for the better mainainance, support, livelihood and preferment of him the said party of the second part. Have given, granted, aliened, enfeoffed and confirmed and by these presents to give, grant, alien, enfeoff and confirm unto the said party of the second part and to his heirs and assigns all that certain tract or parcel of land situate lying and being in Section Number Twelve of Township Number Twelve North of Range Number Nine west in the District of lands offered for sale at Vincennes and in the County aforesaid included within the following boundaries to wit, commencing eighty rods south of the northeast corner of the south east quarter of said Section and from thence due west to the west line of said Section from thence South on said line Fifty Rods from thence due East to the east line of said Section and from thence North on said line Fifty rods to the place of beginning containing one hundred acres. Together with all and singluar the rights, members and appurtenances thereunto belonging or in anywise appeartaining and the reversion and reversions, remainder and remainders, rents, issues and profits thereof. And also all the estate, right, title, interest, property, possession, claim and demand whatsoever of them the said party of the first part of, in and to the said tract of land and premises and every part and parcel thereof with their appurtenances, To have and to hold the said tract of land and all and singular other the premises hereby granted and confirmed with their appurtenances unto the said party of the second part his heirs and assigns, to his and their only proper use and behoof forever. And the said party of the first part for themselves and their heirs, executors and administrators do covenant, promise and agree to and with the said party of the second part his heirs and assigns that at the time of the ensealing and delivery hereof they are well seized of the premises above granted and conveyed as of a good sure perfect, abolute and indefeasible estate of inheritance in the law in fee simply and that the above granted and described premises in the quiet and peacible possession of said party of the second part, they the said party of the first part will forever warrant and Defend. In Witness thereof the said parties of the first part have hereunto set their hands and seals the day and year first above written.

Note: This is part of the tract that Peter Allen bought from Robert Huggins, 24 Apr 1817. Henry also was given part of this tract.

Be it remembered that on this day to wit the tenth day of December in the year of our Lord one
thousand eight hundred and twenty two personally appeared before me Robert Graham one of the Justices of the Peace in and for said County Peter Allen and Mary his wife to me well known to be the grantors within described and acknowledged that he freely executed the within instrument by him subscribed for the purposes therein mentioned. And having examined the said Mary Allen separate and apart from her said husband, she declared she executed the same without any fear, threats, or compulsion from her said husband.

List of persons who voted at an election in Harrison Township, held at the Vigo County Court House, Terre Haute, 1 Feb 1832, includes: Silas Hoskins, Curtiss Gilbert, Peter Allen ((probably Sr because Peter Jr was not quite 21), Myron Allen, Henry Allen, Ira Allen.

Vigo Co Probate "Complete Records Book 2", p. 63-66. Nov 1836. Myron H. Allen, Solomon Allen, Carlton Belt, Ira Allen, and John Britton all served together on a jury and found for the plaintiff. The defendants moved for a new trial, but at the next May term the Judge upheld the original decision.

1850 Census. Found in Posey Township in Clay County. Ira and Lydia, 14-year-old Elvira C. Allen, 8-year-old Peter. Russel Boyd, age 55 born in New York also lives with them.
Nathaniel Allen, age 27, born Indiana lives next door with wife and two children, son named Miron, daughter Elizabeth. No doubt a son of Ira and Lydia. There were likely other children between Nathaniel and Elvira.

‘We, the undersigned citizens of the places mentioned opposite our names, being deeply impressed with the alarming increase of crime and with the inability of those only who are acting as officers to protect the property and persons of the citizens of this state, do, for the purpose of protecting ourselves, our property, and for the good of society, associate ourselves together under the provisions of the act of March 9, 1852, page 318 of the Revised Statutes of 1852, and we do hereby agree to adopt the provisions of said act, and to be known by the following name, to-wit, ‘The Clay County Regulators,’ and we do agree that said associa- tion shall exist for the space of ten years from this date, unless dissolved by a majority of all the subscribers hereto, and we hereby agree to be governed by the rules, regulations, constitution and by-laws which may be passed and adopted by a majority of -this association within the provi- sions of the act above referred to. In testimony whereof, we have here- unto subscribed our names and designated our places of residence, this September 7, 1853.

An obituary that appeared about Ira's brother Peter B. Allen in the Terre Haute newspaper, mentioned that Ira had died years earlier in an accident in Clay County.
