Myron Holley Allen

(19 Nov 1805 - 27 Oct 1872)

Myron Holley was one of the commissioners to build the Erie Canal. Myron was born 1779 in Connecticut, died 1826 in Rochester, NY. His mother, Sarah Dakin, was born in 1755 in Dutchess Co NY. Possibly the families were acquainted there. He married in Canandaigua in western New York in 1804 and started a book store, so surely he was acquainted with Peter & Mary Allen, since they named a son after him in 1805. In 1810, Holley began his political career as county clerk; in 1816 he was his county's representative to the State Assembly.
At least three names of commissioners of the Canal have been given to Allen males - this Myron Holley Allen; sons of Myron's brother Peter were named Peter B. Porter Allen and DeWitt Clinton Allen ; Henry, another brother, named sons Miron Allen and DeWitt Clinton Allen.

I found a plat mat of the Township of Taycheedah in 1862. M. H. Allen had property that bordered Lake Winnebago. J. C. Robbins had property just north of his. Brother in law C. C. Belt was slightly south of them.

His death reported as 15 Feb 1866, is unlikely - he seems to be very much alive in 1870:
