Charles Comstock of Evanston Dead
Next to Oldest Member of Chicago Board of Trade Passes Away.
Charles Comstock of Evanston, next to the oldest member of the Chicago Board of Trade, died at his home, No. 1326 Ridge avenue, Evanston at 1:40 yesterday morning. Mr. Comstock had been in poor health for several months, but his illness was not considered serious until about 9 o'clock the evening before he died. The physicians ascribe his death to a general breaking down of the systerm.
Charles Comstock was born in Camden, NY, 7 May 1814. He lived in central New York till 1861, when he came to Chicago from Syracuse, and has made his home in Evanston ever since. He was one of the most liberal supporters of St. Mark's Episcopal Church of Evanston, of which he was senior warden.
Mr. Comstock's connections with the Board of Trade began in 1861 and he devoted almost his entire attention to it from that time until 1882, when he retired from active business. He was at one time President of the Traders'Insurance company and a partner in the Onondaga Salt company of Syracuse. Mr. Comstock leaves a wife and six children - Alexander S. of Detroit, William C. of Chicago, Alphonso S., Alice J., Mrs. William H. Cutler, aand Mrs. George W. Whitefield of Evanston.
The funeral will be held either Saturday or Sunday afternoon at St. Mark's.
