Built home "Eastbank" in Winter Park, FL; the name was since it was located on the east bank of Lake Osceola. It was placed on the National Register of Historical Homes in 1983.
William first moved down to central Florida about 1872 - in 1882, he bought a farmhouse on sixty acres and built a home in the Queen Anne style, similar to the homes in Evanston, IL on Lake Michigan. Most of the materials were shipped down the St. John River to Sanford and then hauled by ox-drawn sledges the 20 miles to Winter Park. He wintered in Florida, returning to Chicago for the summer. He was president of the Board of Trade in Chicago until his death, September, 1924.

The sixty acres surrounding Eastbank was sold and subdivided. In 1927, Eastbank was purchased by John and Flora Harris. Four generations of their family have lived in the house.

He is buried Rosehill Cemetery & Mausoleum, Chicago.
