Individual Details
Thomas Johnson
(Abt 1685 - Bef 1733)
Susan Duncombe Johnson is believed to be Thomas's mother if so he was born prior to August of 1686.
In the will of Richard Johnson, made in 1698, he apparently devised to his son Thomas, all of his land in King William Co, part of which he had purchased of Samuel Snead, which contained 750 acres in Pamunkey Neck. This was called "Chericoke" Thomas Johnson patented additional land in 1711, probably about the time he married.
There is a patent dated 11 Jul 1719 to Nicholas & Richard Johnson. This appears to have been his sons who were only about six and four years old at the time. The 807 acres was then in New Kent Co, both sides of Southanna of Pamunkey River. This land would eventually be in Louisa Co. His widow continued to patent land in this area in 1739.
The six children of Thomas and Anne, except for Nicholas, were all under age when Thomas died sometime before 1734. Their mother posted guardian bond in Hanover Co, 6 Feb 1734. Richard Chapman who married their daughter Jane, stated in a letter than Thomas and William Johnson both predeceased their eldest brother Richard.
